This past Sunday morning was my first solo flight away from the airport. Marilyn went with me to the airport. We arrived at 8 AM at the airport and build the wing, it takes about 15 min the get the wing up and ready. After the pre flight I was ready to take off. There was a 5 knot wind from the NW, it is a slight cross wind from the west on runway 4. I took of and the wind and early turbulence bumped me quite a bit as I was going up. At altitude 1000 ft it turned like smooth glass, it was such a relief to fly in that calm air. I flew the down wind leg of runway 4 and knew I was in for a bumpy landing. As I descended down below 1000 ft the bumps hit me again, I managed to make a decent landing and took off again. On the second circuit I decided to land full stop and go back to the hanger, it wasn't fun doing the circuits and landings in these conditions. I landed and taxied back to the hanger. Marilyn sensed that I was tense and didn't enjoy the flight. At that moment Abid, my first instructor was ready to take off with a new student for his first lesson. Abid said I should go up with them and follow them to the general flying area and stay above the turbulence and just enjoy the flight. I was apprehensive taking off again but knew it will be good for my experience to get going so soon again. I took off first and Abid and his student followed, it was comforting to see Abid behind me. As we hit the 1000 ft mark all turbulence disappeared, the flying became calm and I started to enjoy the view, I made all kinds of turns and enjoyed how the Trike handled. After about 30 min I called Abid on the radio and told him I am going back to the airport. He said he will follow me back and keep an eye on me. It was very nice of him to back me up on the radio calls back into the airport circuit. I knew the landing was going to be a bit ruff, so I was prepared for what was coming. The bumps hit me as I descended below 1000 ft and I turned into the cross wind for runway 4, I bounced all the way in but I kept some power on and flew the Trike on the white line on the runway, I slowly let go of the power and made a perfect landing in the slight cross wind. I taxied back to the hanger where Marilyn was waiting, I felt very good that I went up a second time and thank Abid for looking out for me. It is always nice to have a wing man when flying, especially at this stage of my flying experience. Now I am looking forward to the next flight, I am scouting out the landscape on google earth where I want to fly next. I did have the video camera on but the picture came out to "wavy" and not much different from what I already have on the site. I am showing the video of the landing, you will see the movement of the wing and cart landing in the turbulence. I am still working on improving the camera mount and editing. I am also waiting for the wide angle lens I bought.
