Latest Flying news

Over the Thanksgiving weekend I went flying twice. Last Sunday we were three trikes taking off, Larry said he and a student will be flying to Burntwood about 15 miles away, I set the GPS course and took off. This was my first experience flying with GPS, at first I couldn't figure out what to look for on the GPS and I few in a wrong direction. I started turning and watching the icon of the plane on the GPS turn, then I noticed the blue line I was supposed to follow, I kept on turning until I got the icon on top of the line and just followed the line. The ground below is so flat and everything looks the same, I flew for about 5 min in the right direction and saw a X on the GPS and took it for my destination. As I flew above the X I saw 3000 ft below a runway and an aircraft 't taking off. I couldn't see any of the other trikes around. I decided to turn back to Zephyrhills since the sun was setting soon. Back at the airport and all the guys back I found out I was at the wrong airport, my direction was correct I just had to keep on flying since I was over Green swamp and it was in line with Burntwood, if I had flown another 5 min I would have been over Burntwood. Well, so much for flying with GPS but this is how I learn.

I saw on the weather report we will have a windy weekend so I decided to go fly Friday afternoon, the air was smooth. We had to take off on runway 22, it is the opposite of runway 4 because we had the wind from the south. This was the first time I had to fly this pattern around the airport. Taking off wasn't a big deal, I took off made a right turn flying the downwind leg along the runway. I couldn't go directly to my practice area since I would have to overfly the town and that isn't good in case I had to make an emergency landing. I flew for about 45 min and then returned back the the airport. I had to fly high at 2500 ft over the town and drop down to 1000 feet joining the downwind leg for runway 22. The sun was directly in my eyes as I was coming in for landing, I couldn't see the runway clear, I added some power low over the runway, and eased of the gas until I touched down. I made a nice deep landing and taxied to the hanger. All in all, a very nice flight. Until later..bye..
